THAT “patience is a virtue” is a classic proverb meaning that the capacity to wait calmly, tolerate delays or endure hardship without getting angry is a valuable, morally admirable quality.
This was much evident with part-time Grab driver ℛ𝒶𝒶ℛ𝒶𝒶 (@iyrraaaa) who shared her experience ferrying a horribly unpleasant elderly Chinese passenger which went viral on Threads.

Recounting the journey from iCity @ Shah Alam to Bukit Tinggi in Klang, the poster had to endure the extreme rudeness of the lady passenger who groused about everything.
Complaining that the radio was too loud and that she had a fleet of big cars at home, the annoying aunty seemed hell-bent at making life a misery for the hapless Grab driver.
To her immense credit, the lady behind the wheel remained calm throughout and only politely asked if the aunty wanted to be sent home or be dropped off by the roadside.

Sharing that it was the belligerent aunty’s daughter who placed the booking for the e-hailing ride, the poster remarked that she had already noted the elderly lady’s “emo” demeanour when she slammed the cab door.
It was also remarked that the aunty’s child did not raise her voice even when spoken loudly by the aunty and perhaps it was posited why she didn’t drive her herself, preferring instead to let others deal with her incessant grumbling.

It was recalled that the aunty only seemed to love the sound of her own voice as she hurled insults loudly about the poster’s “l*nc*u” (expletive) car while insisting that the radio be silenced.
The Grab driver displayed immense patience as she can be seen from the dashcam vids accompanying the post with her constantly asking the Chinese aunty to calm down and to stop raising her voice.
She also quite rightly pointed out that it was her supposedly decrepit vehicle that has gotten the ungrateful aunty home safely – “not one of her fancy cars allegedly parked in her grand castle”.
Admonished by brethren
Quite obviously fed-up with the attitude of this over-the-top, pompous and impossibly rude customer, the poster pleaded that netizens pray she land a full-time gig soon to avoid such stress-inducing headaches.

First off and perhaps most pertinently, there was an acknowledgement from her employers – Grabmy – for her incredible patience in dealing with the passenger and sending her safely to the destination.
It also advised on how she could submit ratings privately and anonymously regarding third party bookings without jeopardising her own ratings and incentives.

It was also noted that the behaviour of the loudmouth Chinese aunty prompted many of her brethren to condemn her attitude. One remarked that “respect is earned” with almost all were in awe of the Malay lady driver’s cool and calm demeanour in the face of such poor manners.

More than one commenter claimed deep shame at the aunty’s behaviour that has cast a slur on the Chinese community.
One fellow e-hailing driver claimed he would have ended quarrelling with the belligerent aunty while professing utmost respect for the zen-like calm in which the poster dealt with this ugly passenger.

One observer had this little nugget of advice for the person who booked the ride – “please stop booking cab rides for your mum who obviously don’t know how to behave properly at her age” was the plea as she was acting out her anger and frustrations on strangers.

More pertinently, this abrasive aunty’s behaviour was not only embarrassing her family and herself but the entire Chinese community as well. – Oct 13, 2026
