FOREIGN investors extended their net foreign selling streak on Bursa Malaysia to a fourth consecutive week with a lower net outflow of -RM270.2 mil during the Oct 12-16 trading period from the prior week’s -RM358.1 mil.

They were net sellers on all five trading days during the week, according to MBSB Research (formerly MIDF Research).

“The highest of outflows were recorded on Monday (Oct 12) (-RM105.7 mil),” observed the research house in its weekly fund flow report.

“This was followed by Wednesday (Oct 14) (-RM84.6 mil), Friday (Oct 16) (-RM53.5 mil), Thursday (Oct 15) (-RM14.0 mil) and Tuesday (Oct 13) (-RM12.4 mil).”

The top three sectors that recorded net inflows from foreign institutions were financial services (RM88.5 mil), healthcare (RM55.5 mil) and transportation & logistics (RM52.8 mil).

Meanwhile, the top three sectors with the highest net outflows were utilities (-RM201.3 mil), industrial products & services (-RM131.3 mil) and plantation (-RM75.8 mil).

In a similar note, local institutions ended their three-week net buying streak with outflow amounting to -RM140.3 mil.

On the contrary, retailers extended their net buying streak to an eighth week with inflow of RM410.5 mil.

The average daily trading volume (ADTV) saw a broad-based increase with local institutions up by +4.4%, followed by foreign institutions ( +4.8%) but that of retailers was down by -13.4%.

In comparison with another four Southeast Asian markets tracked by MBSB Research, Thailand was the only market in the positive territory by having ended a five-week net selling trend with US$113.9 mil in inflow.

However, foreign investors continued to net sell in Indonesia for the sixth week in a row with an outflow of -US$176.5 mil.

This came on the back of the Indonesia Stock Exchange having faced renewed pressure after MSCI proposed removing the country from its Emerging Markets Index, citing concerns over market transparency and trading practices.

Vietnam, too, extended its net foreign selling streak to a fourth week with an outflow of -US$116.2 mil despite the country and the US were nearing completion of their bilateral trade negotiations.

Elsewhere, the Philippines extended its net foreign selling streak to 11 straight weeks with -US$22.5 mil in outflow amid a -44.1% year-on-year (yoy) plunge in foreign direct investment (FDI) to US$689 mil in July 2026.

The top three stocks with the highest net money inflow from foreign investors last week were Public Bank Bhd (RM148.9 mil), CIMB Group Holdings Bhd (RM84.8 mil) and UWC Bhd (RM50.0 mil) – Oct 19, 2026
