AFTER five consecutive weeks of outflows, foreign investors have returned to net foreign buying on Bursa Malaysia during the Oct 26-30 trading week with an inflow of RM323.1 mil (prior week -RM301.7 mil).

They were net buyers on four out of five trading days during the week with the highest inflow recorded on Wednesday (Oct 28) at RM117.4 mil, according to MBSB Research (formerly MIDF Research).

“This was followed by Tuesday (Oct 27) (RM117.2 mil), Friday (Oct 30) (RM68.6 mil) and Thursday (Oct 29) (RM32.3 mil),” observed the research house in its weekly fund flow report. “The only net outflow was recorded on Monday ((Oct 26) (-RM17.3 mil).”

The top three sectors with net inflows from foreign institutions were financial services (RM437.1 mil), transportation & logistics (RM169.5 mil) and construction (RM73.4 mil).

Meanwhile, the top three sectors with the highest net outflows were plantation (-RM163.2 mil), technology (-RM110.9 mil) and industrial products & services (-RM102.4 mil).

On the contrary, local institutions reverted to net selling following the previous week’s net inflows by recording an outflow of -RM457.7 mil.

However, retailers extended their net buying streak to a tenth week in a row with RM134.6 mil in inflow.

The average daily trading volume (ADTV) saw a broad-based increase with retailers up by +3.7% and foreign institutions by +8.9% but that of local institutions was down by -6.4%.

In comparison with another four Southeast Asian markets tracked by MBSB Research, Thailand extended its net foreign buying streak to a third week with an inflow of US$13.5 mil.

This came amid the country’s retail sales rebounding +15.2% year-on-year (yoy) in August 20026 (July 2026: -5.9%), thus ending four consecutive months of annual contraction.

However, Indonesia stretched its net foreign selling streak to eight straight weeks with-US$168.5 mil in outflow despite the country’s realised investment having reached 1,539.2 tril rupiah in 9M CY2026, an equivalent of 75.4% of its FY2026’s 2,041.3 ttil rupiah target with around 2.19 million jobs generated.

Elsewhere, Vietnam extended its net foreign selling streak to a sixth week with -US$104.2 mil in outflow with the Philippines stretched its outflow trend to 13 successive weeks with -US$5.1 mil.

The top three stocks with the highest net money inflow from foreign investors last week were Malayan Banking Bhd (RM166.3 mil), Public Bank Bhd (RM112.3 mil) and CIMB Group Holdings Bhd (RM91.1 mil). – Nov 2, 2026
