FOREIGN investors extended their net selling streak on Bursa Malaysia to a fourth consecutive week with a lesser outflow of -RM366.0 mil during the Aug 24-28 trading week from the prior week’s RM549.1 mil.

This came about despite a shortened trading week with the market closed on Tuesday (Aug 25) in conjunction with the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday public holiday, according to MBSB Research (formerly MIDF Research).

“Only Wednesday (Aug 26) posted net foreign inflow of RM94.4 mil while the largest net outflows were recorded on Friday (Aug 28) (-RM238.7 mil), followed by Thursday (Aug 27) (-RM140.5 mil) and Monday (Aug 24) (-RM81.1 mil),” observed the research house in its weekly fund flow report.

The top three sectors that recorded net inflows from foreign institutions were transportation & logistics (RM129.5 mil), healthcare (RM74.0 mil) and property (RM32.0 mil).

The three largest sectors with net outflows were financial services (-RM245.5 mil), construction (-RM92.4 mil) and telecommunication & media (-RM86.3 mil).

On the contrary, local institutions extended their net buying streak to five consecutive weeks with inflow valued at RM200.5 mil.

Likewise, retailers reverted to net buying after a week of net selling by recording RM165.5 mil in inflow compared with -RM42.0 mil in net outflows the prior week.

The average daily trading volume (ADTV) saw a broad-based increase; retailers were up by +11.6%, local institutions (+14.3%) and foreign institutions (+96.5%).

In comparison with another four Southeast Asian markets tracked by MBSB Research, Vietnam saw a turnaround in foreign fund flows by snapping a two-week net selling streak as foreign investors raked in inflow of US$36.5 mil.

This came about amid optimistic assessments of Vietnam’s economic outlook with its GDP (gross domestic product) growth expected to reach +11.0% in 2027.

Elsewhere, foreign investors also extended their net buying streak in Indonesia to a second week with a modest inflow amounting to US$15.8 mil.

However, Thailand extended its net selling streak to two successive weeks with outflow of -US$372.4 mil despite its exports exceeded market expectations by rising +21.6% year-on-year (yoy) in July 2026 (June 2026: +20.8%).

On a similar note, the Philippines extended its net selling streak to four weeks in a row with -US$115.2 mil in foreign outflow.

The top three stocks with the highest net money inflow from foreign investors last week were Malayan Banking Bhd (RM108.9 mil), Zetrix AI Bhd (RM43.7 mil) and Inari Amertron Bhd (RM29.1 mil). – Sept 1, 2026
