KUALA LUMPUR, 17 SEPTEMBER 2026 – Five Malaysian game studios are showcasing original IPs and digital creative capabilities at Tokyo Game Show 2026, as Malaysia strengthens its position in the global gaming and creative industry.

Malaysia is marking a decade of participation at Tokyo Game Show (TGS) as five homegrown game studios showcase their original intellectual properties (IPs) and creative capabilities at the 2026 edition of the global gaming event.

Taking place from 17 to 21 September 2026 at Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan, TGS 2026 brings together major players from across the global games ecosystem, including publishers, investors, platform owners, distributors, developers and other industry stakeholders.

The Malaysia Pavilion is jointly organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).

This year’s participating Malaysian companies are Algoin Tech, Fuloso, Magnus Games Studio, Metropolice and Vmagery Studio, representing a range of capabilities across game development, original IP creation, 2D and 3D game art and animation, as well as cinematic and immersive digital solutions.

Ten years of connecting Malaysia with the global games industry

The 2026 participation marks 10 years of Malaysia’s presence at Tokyo Game Show, providing a platform for local studios to showcase their creative and technical capabilities while building connections with international industry players.

The Malaysia Pavilion will facilitate business engagements through a curated programme that includes business matching sessions with strategic partners.

These engagements are intended to open opportunities for Malaysian companies in areas including publishing, licensing, co-development, investment and other commercial partnerships.

MATRADE Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Indera Abu Bakar Yusof said the decade-long participation reflects Malaysia’s growing capabilities and ambitions in the global digital creative and gaming industry.

“Our 10-year participation at Tokyo Game Show is a testament to Malaysia’s growing strength and ambition in the global digital creative and gaming industry. Malaysian studios are not only simply showcasing their capabilities, but they are also creating original intellectual properties, building international partnerships and delivering globally competitive creative solutions,” he said. “MATRADE has facilitated the participation of more than 60 Malaysian companies at TGS over the past years, generating export opportunities worth RM1.31 billion. MATRADE will continue to leverage strategic platforms such as TGS to accelerate the internationalisation of Malaysian companies and translate our creative strengths into sustainable export opportunities,” he added.

Original IPs and digital creative capabilities

The five participating studios represent the breadth of Malaysia’s growing digital creative ecosystem.

Their offerings include original games and IPs inspired by Malaysia’s cultural heritage, alongside specialised services in 2D and 3D game art, animation, cinematic production and immersive digital solutions.

The emphasis on original intellectual property also highlights the growing role of Malaysian companies not only as service providers, but as creators of their own games and creative content for international audiences.

MDEC Chief Executive Officer Anuar Fariz Fadzil said Malaysia’s game development ecosystem continues to develop through its pool of creative talent, technical capabilities and original IPs.

“Malaysia’s game development ecosystem continues to grow, supported by a strong pool of creative talent, sophisticated capabilities and original IPs with international appeal. TGS offers our studios an opportunity to showcase their creativity and technical expertise while building meaningful connections with global industry players. MDEC remains committed to supporting Malaysian talent and companies in expanding their presence in international markets,” he said.

Gaming industry opens opportunities for exports

Beyond showcasing games, Tokyo Game Show provides Malaysian companies with access to potential international business partners across the gaming value chain.

Publishers, investors, platform owners, distributors and developers attending the event create opportunities for participating studios to explore new commercial relationships and expand their international networks.

For Malaysia, these engagements form part of a broader effort to internationalise local digital creative companies and convert domestic creative capabilities into export opportunities.

MATRADE said it has facilitated the participation of more than 60 Malaysian companies at Tokyo Game Show over the years, generating export opportunities valued at RM1.31 billion.

Malaysia’s growing digital creative ecosystem

Malaysia is home to more than 300 animation and game development studios, supported by a skilled and multilingual talent pool with strong technical capabilities.

The country’s digital creative sector generates more than RM5 billion annually through exports, outsourcing, original IP development and digital content production.

This growing ecosystem positions Malaysia as a destination for global companies seeking creative and digital services while providing local studios with opportunities to expand into international markets.

With Malaysian game studios continuing to develop original IPs and build international partnerships, platforms such as Tokyo Game Show remain an important avenue for connecting the country’s creative capabilities with the wider global gaming industry.
