INTELLIGENT data infrastructure outfit NetApp has introduced new tools to enable enterprises manage storage across their own data centres and public clouds, including AI (artificial intelligence)-assisted operations that can identify problems and recommend or carry out responses within set policies.

The updates address a growing challenge for IT teams as applications and AI workloads spread across multiple environments, each with different requirements for cost, security and data control.

“Customers need no longer have to choose between the performance and control of on-premises infrastructure and the flexibility of cloud,” enthused NetApp’s senior vice-president and general manager (platform) Sandeep Singh in a statement.

The new NetApp Console capabilities include fleet management which provides administrators a view of storage systems across different environments. A second delivery model allows Console to run within a customer’s own environment.

NetApp is also adding a conversational interface through which administrators can request storage changes, obtain reports and automate routine work.

The San Jose, California-headquartered company said customers can use their own large language model through an open gateway with actions kept within defined policies and approval controls.

Separately, NetApp Keystone Sovereign offers qualified customers in the European Economic Area controls intended to address data residency and operational access requirements.

NetApp also said its integration with Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure will allow enterprises to run virtualised workloads using NetApp ONTAP storage. The integrated capability is scheduled for general availability later this year.

The announcements form part of NetApp’s effort to give enterprises a more consistent way to operate storage across on-premises systems and the cloud while retaining control over where their data and operations reside.

Additionally, NetApp also unveiled Novus, a separate storage architecture designed to keep large AI GPU (graphics processing unit) clusters supplied with data.

It said Novus is available to order and designed to support high utilisation across hundreds of thousands of GPUs. Omdia’s modelling projects sequential read throughput of 100 terabytes per second as the architecture scales. – Sept 30, 2026
