Ridhuan Tee: How dare MCA tell me to emigrate when its political survival relies heavily on Malay votes

CONTROVERSIAL Muslim convert preacher Ridhuan Tee Abdullah’s animosity with Chinese majority political parties has now turned from DAP to MCA which recently urged him to “voluntarily renounce his citizenship and migrate somewhere filled with hatred, antagonism or conflict that makes him feel comfortable”.

“Who’s MCA? They contest elections and win only one or two seats – and even then, they rely on Malay votes to secure those wins; otherwise, they’d get zero,” the Muafakat Nasional’s deputy president snubbed in retaliation on his Facebook page.

“Yet, suddenly, they’ve the audacity of telling me to emigrate and renounce my citizenship. Which ethnic group actually leaves Malaysia in the greatest numbers?”

Editor’s Note: Ridhuan had signed up as a MCA lifetime member at a Selangor branch on Dec 18, 2000 whereby he remained an ordinary, inactive member who did not hold any party positions.

This was till May 30, 2016 when he officially quit the party in protest by accusing MCA of being anti-Islam for opposing a private member’s bill regarding hudud laws.

MCA National Youth deputy chairman Mike Chong Yew Chuan has apparently ruffled the feather by ticking off the former professor of ethnic relations, Malaysian nationhood and Islamic civilisation for turning the funeral of the late former First Lady Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali into fodder to incite hatred and antagonism.

“This is not Ridhuan’s first controversial remark,” revealed Chong.

Recently, his rants ranged from accusing the Malaysia Airlines inflight magazine of lacking Bahasa Malaysia, questioning why the Hungry Ghost Festival celebration banners only used Chinese characters, and characterising the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) as a ‘product of communism’.

He consistently steers issues towards ethnic, linguistic, and identity confrontation which could otherwise be discussed rationally.

Instead of respecting the state funeral as a solemn occasion whereby the entire nation mourned over the demise of the centenarian Tun Siti Hasmah, Ridhuan has somehow politicised the event by allegedly weaponising the glimpses of ‘reconciliation’ between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“Now, even a funeral can become an outlet for his hatred. The passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah and the attendance of figures from diverse political backgrounds to pay their respects is an expression of respect for the deceased and her family,” jibed MCA’s Chong.

“Even with differing political stances, there’s no need to exploit a moment of national mourning to manufacture hatred.”

In a somehow milder FB post earlier, the former panellist of RTM’s Hal-Ehwal Islam programme has used national language supremacy and the race/religion factor to undermine MCA.

“Diversity must be anchored in its core foundation: Islam, the Malays and the Bumiputera,” he justified.

“Ensure your members are proficient in Bahasa Melayu and can sing Negaraku correctly. MCA needs to grasp this fundamental point first; only then can we discuss who should return to China.”

While he has received praises from his fanbase for “unmasking MCA’s true character which is no better than that of DAP”, Ridhuan’s audacity of turrning a funeral into a political arena has infuriated Madani Muslims who mocked him for abusing Islam in attacking his own ancestral root.

“I might well be the first person (Muslim) to support this proposal (of asking Ridhuan to emigrate),” asserted Kelantanese political observer and Amanah member Mohd Sayuti Omar as he seconded MCA’s recent call in a FB post.

“A country like Malaysia is not the place for people like this; there is no room for them here. Emigrate immediately to any destination you choose because we want to live in peace and harmony in this country, free from mutual prejudice and hatred. Just leave. Thanks.”

But a more profound advice came from former Amanah vice-president Datuk Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus who reminded Ridhuan who converted to Islam at the age of 20 (now he is 61) that “if you’re unable to appreciate the good deeds of others, it’s best to remain silent”.

“When a death occurs, we make an effort to pay a visit, perform the funeral prayer, and – if able – attend the burial,” shared the former Hulu Langat MP and corporate figure.

We offer condolences to the family, provide them with comfort and acknowledge the friends who have also come to pay their respects.

We ask everyone to forgive the deceased; if there’re outstanding debts or unresolved matters, we encourage people to meet and discuss them with the family and next of kin.

We also cite scriptural evidence and arguments urging us to shield the deceased’s faults and speak only of their good qualities. – Oct 4, 2026
