GENTING Property Sdn Bhd has partnered with Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd to masterplan a 430-acre Smart Campus within Johor Tech Smart City (JTSC), marking Huawei’s first international Smart Campus partnership.
The agreement was signed at the Shenzhen Longgang International Art Centre in conjunction with Huawei’s “Cloud-Powered Infrastructure ‒A New Digital Ecosystem” event.
Under the master planning agreement, Huawei will contribute its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, technological expertise and smart campus experience to the development of JTSC’s Knowledge AI Campus.
The partnership will draw on Huawei’s existing smart campus projects in Shanghai and Dongguan, China.
JTSC is a planned 2,300-acre integrated development in Kulai, Johor, combining technology, agricultural innovation and smart infrastructure. Its Knowledge AI Campus is intended to support research, innovation, talent development and digital infrastructure.
Genting Property said the agreement marked Huawei’s first international Smart Campus partnership and its first overseas deployment of AI-enabled master planning capabilities.
The signing was witnessed by Genting Bhd executive chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay and Huawei executive member of the supervisory board and chief logistics officer Ren Shulu, also known as Steven Ren.
Genting Plantations chief executive and executive director Datuk Indera Lim Keong Hui said the partnership was intended to connect global technological expertise with local opportunities.
“Anchored by the 430-acre Smart Campus, JTSC will be a premier destination where global innovation unlocks local opportunity, shaping a progressive future through purposeful, strategic intent,” he said.
Huawei Malaysia Enterprise Business Group deputy chief executive Du Xianjun said the partnership would extend the company’s smart campus model beyond China.
“We are pleased to welcome Genting Property as our first international Smart Campus partner,” he said.
“The 430-acre Smart Campus in JTSC will serve as a benchmark new model for how future intelligent ecosystems are built and managed worldwide.”
Beyond JTSC, the companies said the partnership could pave the way for broader digital transformation across the Genting Plantations group, including potential applications in agricultural technology, sustainable energy management and corporate infrastructure.
The collaboration is expected to support the development of a technology-focused ecosystem within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), with the aim of attracting multinational companies, advanced manufacturing activities and technology investment.
Genting Property and Huawei said the initiative would also create opportunities for knowledge sharing and the development of the local technology ecosystem.‒Oct 16, 2026
