FOREIGN Investors have extended their net selling streak on Bursa Malaysia to a fifth week during the Oct 19-23 trading period with outflows valued at -RM301.7 mil which is slightly higher than the prior week’s -RM270.2 mil.

They were net sellers on three out of five trading days during the week, according to MBSB Research (formerly MIDF Research).

“The highest outflow was recorded on Tuesday (Oct 20) (-RM187.0 mil), followed by Friday (Oct 23) (-RM118.0 mil) and Thursday (Oct 22) (-RM97.6 mil),” observed the research house in its weekly fund flow report.

“Meanwhile, net inflows were recorded on Monday (Oct 19) (RM57.3 mil) and Wednesday (Oct 21) (RM43.5 mil).”

The top three sectors that recorded net inflows from foreign institutions were financial services (RM261.6 mil), healthcare (RM38.9 mil) and property (RM9.2 mil).

Meanwhile, the top three sectors with the highest net outflows were plantation (-RM172.3 mil), industrial products & services (-RM150.0 mil) and utilities (-RM147.6 mil).

On the contrary, local institutions reverted to net buying following the previous week’s net outflow with RM205.0 mil in inflow.

Likewise, retailers extended their net buying streak to nine straight weeks by recording an inflow of RM96.8 mil.

The average daily trading volume (ADTV) saw a broad-based decrease with retailers down by -21.5%, local institutions (-15.3%) and foreign institutions (-23.2%.).

In comparison with another four Southeast Asian markets tracked by MBSB Research, Thailand extended its net foreign buying streak to a second week with inflow of US$89.3 mil.

This came about as the country climbed 10 places to 38th among 110 economies in the World Economic Forum’s 2026 Travel & Tourism Development Index with its score improving +5.6% from 2024 to 4.35.

However, Indonesia extended its net foreign selling streak to a seventh week with outflow amounting to -US$369.6 mil as Jakarta has unexpectedly maintained its key interest rate at 5.75% for a fourth consecutive meeting in October 2026 against market expectations for a 25bps (basis points) hike.

Elsewhere, the Philippines extended its net foreign selling streak to 12 successive weeks with -USD144.1 mil in net outflow while Vietnam stretched its net outflow to a fifth week in a row with -US$37.4 mil.

The top three stocks with the highest net money inflow from foreign investors last week were Public Bank Bhd (RM222.7 mil), CIMB Group Holdings Bhd (RM81.3 mil) and AMMB Holdings Bhd (RM50.0 mil) – Oct 26, 2026
