IN response to the remarks made today (Oct 27) by Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that the UMNO-MCA negotiation went well, I would like to confirm the details and provide further clarification:
At around 11 pm last night (Oct 26), at the direction of the UMNO president, BN secretary-general YB Senator Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh met with me and another MCA leader at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur to discuss matters relating to the Melaka state election.

The meeting concluded at around 1 am today (Oct 27).
Yes, the meeting took place in a calm and cordial atmosphere without any arguments. MCA clearly conveyed our dissatisfaction with the seat allocation for the Melaka state election.
MCA has always been a party that believes in presenting facts, reasoning things out and engaging in civil discourse. Whenever differences arise, we seek to resolve them through consultation and dialogue.
As for Zahid’s description of the outcome as “positive”, I believe we are still some distance from achieving that objective.
It would be premature to describe the outcome as positive at this stage. Both sides need to continue their discussions, and I hope we can make a breakthrough within the next day or two.
Any decision on MCA’s next course of action and its final position regarding the Melaka state election will be deliberated and decided collectively by the party’s central leadership. – Oct 27, 2026
