Japanese gaming giant Nintendo said Friday it will hike the price of its Switch 2 gaming console as component costs soar, warning that net profit would fall 27% this year.
The Switch 2 price would rise 20% in Japan to ¥59,980, by around 10% in the US to US$499.99 and in Europe by 6% to €499.99, Nintendo said.
For the year to March 2027, the firm said it expected net profit to drop 27% to ¥310 billion (US$1.98 billion) on sales of ¥2.05 trillion, marking a fall of 11.4%.
Net profit surged 52% to ¥424 billion in the last fiscal year on annual sales of ¥2.31 trillion, nearly doubling from the previous year, Nintendo said in a statement.
In the 12 months to March 2026, “Nintendo Switch 2 got off to a good start following its launch in June and global sales continued to grow after that,” the company said.
It sold 19.86 million units of the new console by March, thanks partly to the release of the “Pokemon Pokopia” game, it said.
Among popular game titles, “Mario Kart World” sold 14.70 million units and “Donkey Kong Bonanza” shifted 4.52 million units, Nintendo said.
In the year to March 2027, the sales volume of Switch 2 is expected to hit 16.50 million, the firm said.
“Reflecting strong launch-year sales and price revisions, we expect FY27 sales units to decline year-on-year. Even so, we believe this represents a solid level of adoption for Nintendo Switch 2 in its second year after launch,” it said.
