KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Corporation Bhd (BCorp), through its subsidiaries Selat Abadi Sdn Bhd and Berjaya Rail Sdn Bhd, has entered into a strategic partnership with MARA Liner Sdn Bhd to drive mobility transformation while strengthening national localisation efforts and Bumiputera participation in the rail and mobility ecosystem.
The collaboration was formalised through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Selat Abadi and MARA Liner during the 60th anniversary carnival of Majlis Amanah Rakyat, held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.
The partnership is aligned with the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35) and reflects BCorp’s commitment to strengthening domestic supply chains and enhancing economic resilience.
Under the collaboration, both parties will focus on three key areas, namely supply chain localisation, talent development through technical and vocational education and training (TVET), and the scaling up of Bumiputera entrepreneurship.
In terms of supply chain localisation, BCorp will work with MARA Liner to identify and integrate high-potential Bumiputera vendors into its manufacturing supply chains, as well as maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services.
The partnership will also leverage MARA’s extensive education network to develop specialised industrial training programmes aimed at building a future-ready workforce, particularly in emerging sectors such as green technology and digital services.
BCorp will also support MARA’s goal of listing Bumiputera companies on Bursa Malaysia by providing mentorship and market access to accelerate the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) within the MARA ecosystem.
BCorp founder and adviser Tan Sri Vincent Tan said the collaboration combines the strengths of both organisations to drive local economic growth.
“By combining Berjaya’s diverse industrial expertise with MARA’s deep talent pool, we are creating a powerful engine for local economic growth. This is not just about business; it is about building a resilient, self-sustaining Malaysian economy,” he said.
Meanwhile, MARA Liner Chief Executive Officer Wan Agyl Wan Hassan said the partnership would help accelerate MARA’s long-standing mission of developing Bumiputera talent and enterprise.
“This synergy with a global conglomerate like BCorp ensures that six decades of MARA’s nation-building legacy are not only honoured, but accelerated.
“This partnership provides the industrial framework, supply chain access and commercial strength needed to ensure that Malaysia’s next phase of transformation is one in which Bumiputera participation is meaningful, competitive and sustainable,” he said.
The initiative is expected to begin with a joint pilot programme focusing on the centralisation and digitalisation of maintenance, repair and overhaul services, scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2026.
