KUALA LUMPUR:

Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PetChem) has named Izwan Ismail as its new managing director and CEO effective Jan 1, 2027.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the petrochemical producer said the appointment was approved at a special meeting today.

In a separate filing, PetChem’s board of directors took note of Mazuin Ismail’s resignation as the managing director and CEO effective the same date following his retirement from the Petronas group.

PetChem said Izwan, 51, brings over 29 years of experience spanning finance, corporate planning, strategy, commercial management, operations, and technology.

“Since October 2024, he has served as vice-president, group technology and commercialisation, where he led Petronas Nasional Bhd’s transformation of its artificial intelligence and digital ecosystem, as well as its research and development ecosystem.

“Currently, he serves as director of Petronas Gas Bhd and various subsidiaries of the Petronas Group,” it said.

Izwan began his career with Arthur Andersen in Sydney in 1997 before joining Petronas in 2000, where he served in corporate finance, group accounts and group treasury at its subsidiary, MISC Bhd.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce with a double major in Accounting and Information Systems from University of New South Wales, Australia, and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School in the US.

He is a fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand, and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and Malaysian Institute of Accountants.
