KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, has enhanced its intra-Asia network with a new dedicated, non-stop freighter service between its Asia-Pacific hub in Guangzhou, China and Sydney, Australia—strengthening inbound trade connectivity into Australia from key markets across Asia, including Malaysia.
Operating five times weekly with Boeing 777 freighter aircraft, the new routing is expected to deliver up to one-day faster transit times for select shipments applicable to FedEx International Priority, International Priority Direct Distribution and International Priority Freight shipments originating from southern mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
For Malaysian businesses, the enhanced connectivity supports sectors such as electronics, manufacturing, healthcare and e-commerce that rely on fast and dependable cross-border logistics.
The new connection enables businesses across the region to improve supply chain efficiency through improved speed-to-market and reduced inventory holding costs; increase capacity for heavy-weight freight and high-value goods, and support B2B growth in time-sensitive and high-value sectors.
“Australia is already a meaningful trading partner for Malaysia, but the nature of that trade is evolving – we’re seeing more high-value, time-sensitive goods moving between the two markets,” said FedEx Malaysia managing director Woon Tien Long.
He added that shift demands a different kind of logistics capability, one built on predictability and speed rather than just capacity.
“By continuing to deepen our network across the region, FedEx is giving Malaysian businesses the infrastructure they need to pursue opportunities in Australia and across Asia-Pacific with greater confidence,” said Woon.
According to FedEx’s Air Freight Trends 2026: The Future of Global Trade in Apac report, intra-Asia trade posted double-digit year-on-year revenue growth in 2025, underscoring the region’s role as a key engine of global growth. As companies reconfigure supply chains to be faster, more regional, and more resilient, seamless air connectivity across Asia has become critical. The company’s direct connection through the FedEx Guangzhou Hub strengthens this backbone, supporting high-velocity trade and reinforcing Asia’s role as a central driver of global commerce.
FedEx said that this service forms part of the company’s ongoing investments in strengthening connectivity that includes dedicated nonstop Guangzhou–Penang cargo flights, additional weekly freighters between Guangzhou and Bangkok, and an enhanced outbound connection from Hanoi to South Korea.
These enhancements help businesses across the region tap into growing trade flows and expand into new markets, it added.
