IPOH: Agriculture and livestock-related companySheng Long Aqua Technology (M) Sdn Bhdhas invested RM140 million to build a new factory in Kamunting, Taiping.

Perak Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Teh Kok Lim said in a statement that today’s ground-breaking ceremony not only marked the official start of construction of a new factory, but also reflected the company’s confidence in investing in Perak.

He said the construction of the new factory also proves Perak’s advantages as a strategic destination for the development of the manufacturing sector and investment when the company chose the state as the location for its first aquaculture feed manufacturing facility in Malaysia.

“The factory will produce high-quality aquaculture feed and is equipped with two shrimp feed production lines and two fish feed production lines with an annual production capacity of 150,000 tonnes.

“This project is expected to meet the growing demand in Malaysia and neighbouring markets while also creating over 100 job opportunities and strengthening local manufacturing capabilities and supply chain resilience,” he said.

He was representing Perak Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee at the ground-breaking ceremony for the company’s new manufacturing plant in Kamunting today.

Teh said the state government through InvestPerak would continue to liaise closely with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida), local authorities and relevant agencies to provide full support for companies investingin Perak.

Sheng Long Aqua Technologyis a subsidiary of China-based Guangdong Haid Group Co Ltdwhich is a global company in the field of agriculture and animal husbandry.

Meanwhile, Mida Manufacturing Development (Resource) executive director Surayu Susah said Muda encourages Sheng Long’s commitment to transfer its expertise to Malaysia’s talents, helping to strengthen their capabilities in advanced feed manufacturing.

She said that equally important is Sheng Long’s commitment to developing a stronger local supply chainas by integrating Malaysian SMEs into its operations, the company will create greater opportunities for local businesses to participate in higher-value manufacturing activities.

“Sheng Long’s vision aligns seamlessly with the aspirations of Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030, which aims to strengthen Malaysia’s manufacturing sector through innovation, technology adoption and higher-value industrial activities.

“This project also creates opportunities for closer collaboration between industry, academia and research institutions. Such partnerships can accelerate innovation, strengthen local capabilities and support a more resilient aquaculture industry,” she said.

Sheng Long general manager Chuang Jie Cheng said the companyaimed to provide high-quality aquaculture feed, a more stable supply chain and comprehensive technical support to help farmers increase productivity and profitability.

“We hope to grow with the Malaysian aquaculture industry and contribute to the sustainable development of the sector in the long term,” he said.

Mida CEO Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid said Sheng Long’s investment marks a meaningful step forward for the country’s agri-food ecosystem by enhancing local manufacturing capabilities, reducing reliance on imported feed and directly reinforcing national food security and supply chain resilience.

“Beyond its economic contribution, the project will create quality employment, facilitate technology and knowledge transfer and enhance local expertise in modern manufacturing,” he said in a joint statement by Mida, Sheng Long and InvestPerak.

The statement added that the investment comes amid sustained momentum in Malaysia’s food manufacturing sector, which attracted RM3.3 billion in approved investments in the first quarter of 2026, among the leading industries within the RM24.1 billion approved for the manufacturing sector overall.

The sector’s continued growth underscores Malaysia’s strengthening position as a regional hub for high-value, resource-based manufacturing and reflects rising investor confidence in the nation’s agri-food ecosystem, the statement read.
