PETALING JAYA: Boustead Holdings Bhd’s (BHB) wholly owned subsidiary, MHS Aviation Bhd (MHS), has partnered with Ammstro Sdn Bhd to undertake a pilot project to digitalise helicopter maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operations.
BHB group managing director Datuk Indera Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad said the partnership reflects Boustead’s strategic role in advancing Malaysia’s aerospace industry and expanding into higher-value maintenance and engineering services.
“We are proud to be a catalyst for the digitalisation of helicopter MRO activities, while leveraging our prowess to develop local talent and capabilities across research and development, engineering and MRO,” he said, adding that they foresee the partnership will support the government’s aspirations to generate industry revenue and create more high-skilled employment opportunities by leveraging new industrial MRO capabilities in emerging technologies.
He said this during an exchange of documents held on the sidelines of Cyber Digital Services, Defence and Security Asia 2026 here on Monday.
Ahmad Sabirin said the collaboration would foster greater cooperation among industry players to build a resilient and future-ready aviation sector, particularly in areas such as engineering documentation software for helicopters and continuing airworthiness management, which monitors MRO activities and the condition of rotorcraft.
The collaboration formalises key areas of cooperation, including engineering – covering aircraft maintenance programme management, airworthiness directives, modification and publication control; planning, covering task and work package control and scheduled maintenance; operations, covering – production handling and the operations control centre; and maintenance supervision and inventory management.
MHS CEO Mohd Fakhrul Arifin Adinan said: “The collaboration indicates our commitment to building Malaysia’s next-generation aviation capabilities. Together with Ammstro, we are laying a strong foundation for scalable, future-ready MRO-engineering software to ensure seamless and efficient data recording.”
Ammstro CEO Shamsul Afendi Saleh said the strategic collaboration reinforces Malaysia’s position as a regional leader in maintenancedigitalisation through aircraft maintenance management software (AMMS).
“As the first independent local company to own such digital programme, we aim to bridge the digitalisation gap among Malaysian industry players by delivering a comprehensive aircraft maintenance ecosystem. Our goal is to enhance industry safety through robust maintenance control and reduce the risk of non-compliance,” he said.
Under the partnership, Ammstro will provide AMMS and technical support, enabling MHS to deploy the software across its fleet of helicopters. The software enhances the safety and efficiency of helicopter operations, supporting timely maintenance and automatically prompting operators when scheduled maintenance is due or approaching its due date.
Subject to further assessment by the engineering team, the six-month pilot project is expected to cover MRO activities for two helicopter types. Upon successful completion of the pilot project, the offering may be expanded to MHS’s existing fleet and newly acquired helicopters.
The collaboration lays the groundwork for further due diligence, including obtaining regulatory approvals from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia and developing operational frameworks, such as standard operating procedures and operations manuals.
