Agriculture and Aquaculture Committee Explores Thailand’s Agricultural Innovation Ecosystem.
The Agriculture and Aquaculture Committee of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) recently concluded an eight-day study mission to Thailand, providing Malaysian industry representatives with first-hand exposure to one of Southeast Asia’s most advanced agricultural and food production ecosystems.
Held from 25 May to 1 June 2026, the mission was led by Committee Chairman Dato’ Chin Boon Tak and brought together 11 delegates representing Malaysia’s agriculture and aquaculture sectors. The initiative was designed to deepen understanding of Thailand’s agricultural technology landscape, modern farming and aquaculture practices, food innovation ecosystem, and emerging opportunities for collaboration between the two neighbouring countries.
Throughout the programme, the delegation engaged with a broad spectrum of organisations across the agricultural value chain. Among the key visits were THAIFEX–Anuga Asia 2026, Thailand’s National Food Institute, Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group, Betagro Group, the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research, the MATRADE Bangkok Office, and the Agro-Industry Research Institute under the Federation of Thai Industries. The delegation also visited agricultural cooperatives, agritourism destinations and major wholesale markets to gain practical insights into Thailand’s agricultural ecosystem.
The study mission provided participants with valuable exposure to Thailand’s advancements in food innovation, smart agriculture, quality assurance systems, food safety management, sustainability initiatives and digital transformation efforts. Delegates also observed how these elements are integrated across the broader supply chain, from production and processing to distribution and retail.
A key highlight of the mission was the opportunity to examine Thailand’s end-to-end agribusiness model. This included farm and livestock operations, feed production, food processing facilities, wholesale markets, retail channels, branding strategies, pricing mechanisms and changing consumer preferences. The comprehensive exposure enabled delegates to better appreciate how Thailand has successfully developed a highly integrated agricultural value chain capable of serving both domestic and international markets.
Beyond technical learning, the mission also served as a platform for dialogue and exchange with Thai institutions, industry players and trade representatives. Discussions focused on strengthening Malaysia–Thailand cooperation in areas such as bilateral trade, export facilitation, agro-processing, certification standards, quality assurance and cross-border business opportunities.
According to Dato’ Chin Boon Tak, Thailand’s success in agricultural modernisation offers valuable lessons for Malaysian industry stakeholders seeking to enhance productivity, competitiveness and value creation.
“Thailand has established several successful models in agricultural modernisation, smart farming adoption, food processing and integrated value chain development. These are areas that Malaysian businesses can learn from as we continue to strengthen our own agricultural and aquaculture sectors,” he said.
He added that the study mission not only broadened participants’ perspectives but also helped establish stronger foundations for future collaboration between stakeholders from both countries.
Looking ahead, ACCCIM remains committed to facilitating greater industry engagement and regional partnerships. By serving as a bridge between businesses, institutions and policymakers, the chamber aims to encourage innovation, support industry upgrading and foster cross-border cooperation that contributes to sustainable agricultural development and long-term regional growth.
