PETALING JAYA: Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation’s (Matrade) Global Sourcing Programme (GSP) held during MyAERO Summit 2026, in collaboration with National Aerospace Industry Corporation (Naico), generated RM325.95 million in export sales for Malaysian aerospace companies.
According to Matrade CEO Abu Bakar Yusof, Malaysia’s aerospace sector generated RM3.06 billion in exports in the first five months of this year, supplying Tier-1 components such as aircraft propulsion and structural components to global original equipment manufacturers.
“As with the exports, the GSP’s success is built on the strength of our manufacturing depth, and not just cost competitiveness”, he said, adding that the GSP converted this credibility into strong sales, proving that direct buyer access accelerates export growth far faster than incremental market exposure.
“We are putting a lot of focus on this approach to advance the Malaysian Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030 and New Industrial Master Plan 2030 targets of positioning Malaysia as Southeast Asia’s leading aerospace hub,” he said.
The GSP supports the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry’s (Miti) target to catalyse 15% to 20% revenue growth for the domestic aerospace sector this year.
Buyers and local participants steered commercial discussions towards high-margin segments, including propulsion systems and components, advanced composite aerostructures, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services and specialised aerospace tooling and fixtures.
Naico Malaysia CEO Dr Shamsul Kamar Abu Samah, pointed to the programme’s conversion rate as evidence of untapped demand for Malaysian capabilities.
“Generating strong sales from a relatively small number of 18 business-matching sessions tells us the demand for Malaysian aerospace capabilities is real and immediate, not aspirational.
“Our strength in airframe and base maintenance anchors the current MRO sector, but converting that base into Miti’s targeted 15% to 20% growth this year means moving decisively into higher-value engineering, innovation and R&D, while we build the talent pipeline this shift demands.”
Shamsul Kamar said the GSP proved that when effort is made to put the right buyers in front of the right suppliers, strategic partnerships convert into commercial outcomes almost immediately. “Our task now is to scale that model.”
Building on the momentum from MyAERO Summit 2026, Matrade will lead Malaysia’s participation at the Farnborough International Airshow 2026 in the United Kingdom from July 20 to 24, marking its sixth consecutive appearance at one of the world’s premier aerospace trade exhibitions.
The Malaysia Pavilion will feature 15 exhibitors, including CTRM Aero Composites Sdn Bhd, UMW Aerospace Sdn Bhd and Malaysia Aviation Group, spanning aerospace manufacturing, systems integration, engineering and design services, training and education, MRO and aviation services. Since debuting at the Farnborough airshow in 2014, Malaysia has secured RM4.8 billion in cumulative export deals.
Matrade will simultaneously launch the Virtual Malaysia Pavilion on the Madani Digital Trade platform to extend participating companies’ global reach beyond the exhibition. This hybrid approach will give Malaysian aerospace companies year-round visibility, sustain their engagement with international buyers, and create greater opportunities to secure high-value export partnerships well beyond the five-day event.
