By Dr Ranee Ramya, Country Manager

Malaysia’s Budget 2027 reflects a continued focus on ensuring that investments in electronics, artificial intelligence, digital services and advanced manufacturing deliver measurable benefits for Malaysian companies and workers. The designation of Penang as the country’s financial technology hub adds a new dimension to this agenda, linking the state’s technology ecosystem with the development of digital financial services. With an emphasis on local supplier development, technology transfer, R&D commercialisation, high-value employment and supply-chain resilience, the policy direction provides opportunities for the country’s next phase of industrial growth.

“Malaysia has built strong economic and policy momentum, but the next priority is converting investment commitments into real capabilities on the ground. This means developing skilled talent, strengthening local suppliers, accelerating technology adoption and ensuring that Malaysian companies are better positioned to participate in higher-value segments of the electronics manufacturing ecosystem,” said Dr Ranee Ramya, Country Manager, Global Electronics Association.

The Global Electronics Association contributes to these priorities through its training, professional certification and technical programmes covering electronics processes, PCB assembly, quality, reliability and smart manufacturing. These programmes provide comprehensive, industry-focused education in electronics, equipping participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to understand electronics manufacturing, design and assemble printed circuit boards, implement quality management systems, improve product and process reliability, and adopt smart manufacturing technologies. Its HRD Corp-claimable training and IPC Standard Gap Analysis programmes help companies strengthen technical capabilities, while its work in advanced electronic packaging, chiplets, 2.5D/3D integration and AI-enabled inspection supports Malaysia’s ambition to move further up the electronics value chain.

With Malaysia’s economy recording 6.0% GDP growth in the second quarter of 2026, Budget 2027 presents an opportunity to align investment incentives with workforce development, local supplier participation and commercial R&D outcomes. Continued collaboration between government, industry and technical institutions will be essential to ensure that growth translates into stronger Malaysian capabilities, quality jobs and more resilient supply chains.
